The Flood

It's been a while, but I'd like for us to share our experiences with the water this week. My husband and I have a creek in our backyard which is normally quite small, but it grew this weekend. We have been absolutely fine, but it is quite something to watch the water rise and start to fill your yard.

The images on television and pictures that friends have sent have been incredible. I've never seen anything like it here in Nashville.

ETA: The additional pictures were provided by Molly. They are BGA's Lower School parking lot.

I'd love to hear about your neighborhoods and what you've seen in the comments.

  1. Over the weekend my mom had to stop at the library to return some movies ,and she started to read a book. The waters started to rise. All of a sudden it started to flood and she had to stay at the library. She almost had to spend the night there, but she needed to get home so she started to walk home with her car still in the parking lot! While she was walking home a man offered her a ride and he took her home. The End

  3. Well, I was trapped on an island with about 30 other houses. We all teamed up to survive. Last night we all cooked everything in our freezers. But it was pretty scary we didn't have power for about 3 days. Yesterday it was so hot! Then the power came on at about 9:00! I was so happy! Some people found a way out, so that is why I am at school. The water was so high that it went all the way to the stoplights! Our stoplights are really high. Some people had an air boat it was so cool! I got to go canoeing down the street! It wasn't very deep. Thank goodness! There was so much water in the ground that the sidewalk fell about 3 feet! There were also a ton of mudslides and stuff like that! I'm sure glad it is over!

  4. My story is not really scary but its the best I've got. What happened was my mom's office at work got flooded and now they are restarting. My mom packed up all her stuff and brought it home. This is all I can say because the rest my mom has not told me. Thank you for reading my story and I hope you like the other stories.

  5. At my house there were water falls and rivers. For example, the front of my house, where the road is there was a river that covered the whole street. In my back yard we have big walls and since we live on a hill there were water falls. There was two inches in our basement and some in the closet. I'm am just glad I didn't have it as bad as some people.

  6. On Sunday I was with my grandparents. My parents were out of town. When I woke up Sunday my house had no electricity and the stream next to my house was going over the bridge. It was awful! My grandparents had to leave so they took my brother and sister and me too my other grandparents house. They had electricity so we were fine. That night i had to go to Long Horn Stake House in my pajamas! My parents came back that night. The next morning we realized that 4 feet of water was under our house! Even thought it took a long time we got all the water out. That is my flood experience! :)

  7. I didn't have any water trouble at all. The most exciting that I did was going to Publix. When we got there there wasn't much water. But after a hour or two of food shopping an announcer said for everyone to get out because the water was rising. So my dad and I made food shopping a extreme speed sport. After we got home we heard on the news that Publix was starting to flood. The End.

  8. When I go to church my family we take one road. Then, during the storm it was covered in I guess 2 feet of water!

A friend had to stay at my house because they were out of power!

Today they went home because their power came back on!

Thank you that the storm is OVER!

  9. I had tons of water at my house. My ditch overflowed there was so much water. I packed up and went to the University. Then, I heard that water got in the University. We went back home, but it took a while. there were roads flooded and one road was covered with a tree because it got knocked down. There was a power cord down on another road. We finally got home. We stayed home the rest of the day. There was a lot of water then and there is still water in my ditch flowing in it today.

  10. My dads friend has a huge truck like you know when they make the truck off the ground the water was touching the truck. I have a friend that has a creek about a 100 yards away and the water was a few feet away from the house.

  11. I had a very interesting weekend. We had no flooding at our house but we had leaks. Outside we had some flooding but not much, we had a waterfall on our rock wall and we had a tiny pond in our ditch. Down at our driveway we had flooding it was nothing major, but the culverts were over flowing and the water was getting on the road. We were out on the trampoline when it was not raining. It was so fun the heavier one went up higher that the lighter one.I was the heavier one because Mason, my little brother jumped on the trampoline with me. It was a record breaking weekend. I was a part of history. The past weekend was a thriller.

  12. It was quite an experience seeing water rise up so high. I was going to stay at my cousin's house for the night, but my family and I had to turn around and go back home because water covered the road. What I saw on the way there was unimaginable. I saw a road but it was blocked off because the rest of road was under water. Then I heard about the parents of my cousin's friend who had to get their canoe to get out of the house. I am thankful that most people at our school are recovering okay.

  15. Wow! I have never the weather like this in Nashville, very unexpected!
So many parts of Tennessee were damaged. And so many lifes, houses, jobs were taken over by water! I am very lucky that my family and I were safe during all of this. I do have something though that I saw that took my breath away, the Concord YMCA! I live a couple of miles away from that certain YMCA and have never in my life seen it so bad. I saw cars, trails, soccer field all UNDERWATER!!! I hope they have recovered now from all of this. I am sure I will never forget this day that will live in history.

  16. On my weekend, I did not have any floods at my house, because I live on a hill. However, down the road from my neighborhood, there was a flood about 10 feet deep. The roads were closed, because it was around a foot on the roads. It took us about 20 minutes to get home from a place that wood usually take around 10 minutes to get to.

  18. I was not affected by the flood, though there was a river in my backyard caused by my creek. I was a little scared by the thunder and lightning. I heard tornado warning and sirens but the news said "No tornadoes." I had no cable but my backroom TV had a digital box so we watched the news all the time and I mostly played Wii and read my OR book for school. We also filled twenty four bottles of water because the water treatment plant was shut down so we had plenty of water. That's what we did all weekend and I had a fun time!

  19. at least it will not happen for for another 500 years

  20. Last week was very crazy.People said it was the flood of 1000 years! Luckily our house was not effected, but our yard, road, and drive way was flooded. We found all kinds of stuff in the water. Like skulls, fossils, and plants. It was very hard to clean up. that is my flood story.

  21. This morning while I was getting ready for school, the news was on. One of the reporters was standing in a neighborhood where it looked like everyone's things were in there yard. She said that now police had to check the I.D. of anyone who went into tho neighborhood to see if they live their because someone had stolen peoples' things.I thing whoever did it is an idiot because these people most-likely just lost everything they had and the stuff is probably all wet.

  22. The rain really started on Saturday, but it was on Sunday when we couldn't leave our house. On Sunday we got up to go to church, we tried to go the usual way, but when we went that way it was flooded. The usual way is we go down by the college soccer field. When we went that way at the bottom of the hill there was probably 5 - 10 feet of water. We backed up and started going the other way, but it was flooded too. So we ended up not going to church. Even though we didn't go we still had work to do. My neighbor ( Mrs. Miller ) her basement got a lot of water in it. We got it half way out and then three more neighbors came in to help. My Mom said since they showed up I could go home. When I got home our pool looked like it was about to over flow. We didn't have much happen in our house but outside of our house was a lot of trouble.

Last week my basement flooded. My mom and dad woke me up on Sunday morning and told me to put on my rain boots and get in the car. We went driving around to look at the houses on our street that were flooded. At first I did not think it would be fun but it turned out to be.

  25. Luckily,my house didn't get flooded.Although,it got a little leaking,so we had to put buckets and towels under it so the floor would not get wet.I know serious stuff has happened to other people's houses.I am very grateful.

  30. The flood was very strong and affected people's lives. I have a creek in my backyard about 1 foot wide, but by the end of the storm,it looked like it was 10 feet wide. I had an oppritunity to help people who had been devistated emotionally and physically by the flood so I took advantage of it. I went down to Lipscomb University and played with the kids and put a smile on their faces. I so fortunite that I didn't get devistated by the flood.

  35. At my house we did not have any flooding or leaks and our electricity wasn't out so I was happy about that. But my aunt and incl;e live in Bellevue and had a lot of flooding. There basement was flooded up to the ceilings and was about to get into the first floor but luckily never did. Their neighbors were nice and let them stay at there house for a little while. On Sunday night my aunt and my baby cousin, Zoe, got on a boat to go stay with my grandmother for until the flooding went down. My uncle decided to stay at there house until the flooding went down instead of going to stay with my grandmother. I am really happy they are doing OK now.

It was 800 dollars and when we were putting the we put everything together and when we were putting the wheals on the power came back on.

Her house was not damaged eathier, luckly, but there was some leaks in the basement. We stayed upstairs and watched the news every time something came up about the floods. There was a portable that was flooting down the street in the flood. The portale was my sister's friend's portable. (I guess that they won't be in school for a long time!) My Mimi's basement was only a tiny bit flooded, but my mom and her got it up. (Thank goodness.) I'm really glad that I wasn't effected by the floods, but I know some people were. I hope the people that bwere effected are okay and safe now. That's my "flood" story!

She stayed home on Monday to take care of her house which had a little flooding. Her phone service was out and she couldn't get in contact with anyone for several hours. When she could use her phone, she called her boss and left a message on his blackberry. He didn't check it until the next morning. Everyone at my mom's office was worried about Ms. Ann. Ms. Ann got to work safely the next day. She is okay. This is the story I wanted to tell you about the flood.

  57. Thank goodness my house suffered no damage during the flood. I have seen so many pictures on t.v. of the people who have lost their homes, cars, and clothes. I have even seen stories on the news of people who have lost their lives or the life of a loved one. I saw a story of four boys who got on a float and tried to go down a flooded river. The river was flowing so rapidly and taking them so fast that they became lost. Only three of the four boys were found alive.
